Fun in the Sun at UCW

A good education need not be all work and no play. In fact, the professors and instructors at University Canada West are very conscientious about building in get-to-know-you relationship-building time in their mentoring of students in the University’s degree and university access programs.
That’s why, with the help of Lorris Leung, UCW Student Services & Support Coordinator Manager, nine UCW staff and three faculty members staged a big summertime picnic at Crab Park, bordering Vancouver’s magnificent downtown waterfront. The picnic drew 19 students.
“Our professors and instructors wanted to celebrate the end of the term by engaging in some recreational fun with students,” says Leung. “We played two different ball games, volleyball and soccer, gave away some mini prizes and dined on a smorgasbord of hot dogs, sandwiches, salads and other snacks.”
It was a fun way to wrap up the term and Mother Nature seemed to agree, as she smiled down broadly on UCW’s picnic, filling the day’s blue sky with sunlight.
“The students enjoyed engaging in the games, networking and summer food in Vancouver’s great outdoors so much that they said they wished this would happen more often,” says Tamara Papo, UCW’s career service specialist.
UCW is part of the Global University Systems (GUS) international network of higher education institutions headquartered in the Netherlands. With institutions and affiliates across the UK, Canada, Germany and Singapore, the group educates more than 50,000 students from 160 different nationalities.
